The 80% Rule of Life

I just came off a two-week travel stretch—Austin, Carmel, Aspen.
It was incredible, but my routine? Completely derailed.

No workouts.
Non-stop eating and late nights.
Too many meetings, too much caffeine, and zero balance.

But here’s the thing: 100% doesn’t exist.
And I’m okay with that.

Perfection is a myth—and chasing it will only burn you out. Life happens. Schedules get messy. Planes get delayed. Sometimes you just have to roll with it. The key is not to let temporary chaos become your new normal.

That’s where the 80% rule of life comes in.

If you can hit it 80% of the time, you win.

  • 80% clean eating
  • 80% exercise consistency
  • 80% quality sleep
  • 80% presence with family and friends
  • 80% focus at work

You don’t need perfection—you need momentum.
Because it’s not about never slipping; it’s about always coming back.

There will be seasons of overwork, travel, stress, and imbalance. That’s life. But if you can keep your habits, health, and mindset dialed in most of the time, you’re doing better than you think.

Maybe that’s the real art of balance—not 100%, but 80%.
