On Peter’s Mind: Find Your Signal

Kevin O’Leary once told a story about working with Steve Jobs. Jobs said even in an 18-hour day, there are only three things that actually matter. Those three are the signal. Everything else is noise.

Real estate agents don’t have a busy problem. We have a noise problem.

We answer texts, check the MLS, scroll, put out fires — and at the end of the day we’re exhausted. But did we move the business forward? Activity is not achievement.

Every morning, before I let the world write my agenda, I ask myself three things. What creates a new opportunity today? What moves an existing deal forward? What builds tomorrow?

That’s it. Everything else waits.

The noise always feels urgent. It rarely is. And usually, the signal takes more courage — the prospecting call, the pricing conversation, the ask. The noise is just a comfortable place to hide from those.

So tonight, write down your three things for tomorrow. Then don’t let anything touch you until you’ve started them.

Do that enough days in a row, and you won’t just have a good week. You’ll have built a career.

Find the signal. Eliminate the noise.
