Most of us take better care of our cars than we take care of ourselves.
We change the oil on schedule. We fix the roof the minute it leaks. We drop everything the second a client or a team member needs us. And then we wonder why we’re running on empty.
I learned this the hard way. Early in my career, I gained 30 pounds pushing that big boulder up the hill. Sleep, food, exercise, I let it all go.
Today, I work just as hard as I ever did. But I get my workouts in. I eat well. I protect my sleep. And I’m a better leader for it.
Here’s a real-life example. It’s 7:45 in the morning. Your only window to work out is 8 to 9. Your best client calls with a big problem.
Work out. Call them back at 9. Nothing will fall apart in an hour. But take that call, and the workout is gone for the day.
That’s not selfish. That’s discipline.
The people who count on you, your clients, your team, your family, need you at full strength. The only way to give them that is to take care of you first.
Health is our only true wealth.
