On Peter’s Mind: Don’t Ever Apologize for Being a Realtor

Never apologize for being a Realtor.

I didn’t always feel that way. In fact, I was the reluctant one. My father and brother were both Realtors, and they encouraged me to join them, but I resisted. My friends were becoming lawyers, doctors, and producers. I was studying economics at UCLA, on a pre-law path. Real estate, at the time, felt like a lesser pursuit.

Then, something shifted.

After graduating, while traveling through Europe, I had a profound realization. Everywhere I went, in every conversation, one topic kept resurfacing—real estate. Every successful person I knew—lawyers, doctors, executives, investors—wanted to be in it. It wasn’t a secondary interest; it was a central focus.

That moment transformed my perspective. I decided that if I was going to pursue this career, I would elevate it. I would be professional, well-dressed, educated, and skilled. I would redefine what it meant to be a Realtor. My perspective changed forever.

Fifty years later, I have never looked back.

This is a business that builds wealth, shapes communities, and changes lives.

Stand tall in it. Take pride in it.

And never apologize for it.
